Impressions of Bowling Green

Cor's College Visit to Bowling Green State University

Cor is coming to the end of his junior year of high school, so it makes sense that he would start thinking about college visits and such. Still, it felt kind of shocking to get an email a couple of months ago alerting me to the fact that Cor had just signed up for his first official college visit: to Bowling Green State University. Marci and I were both excited to accompany Cor, since we happened to get our Bachelor’s Degrees from BGSU. And we took a bunch of the standard “parent on a college visit” kind of photographs throughout the course of our visit. But I also took a couple of more impressionistic shots as we walked around. And now that we’re back in Kent processing the experience, I have to say that the impressionistic photos turned out to be some of my favorites.

It’s been twenty-two years since I lived in Bowling Green. Still, these little impressionistic scenes evoke strong memories. And feelings of gratitude. God did a lot in my life during the eight years that I called Bowling Green home. I don’t know if Cor will end up choosing to study at BGSU or elsewhere, but I’m excited for whatever textures, colors, relationships, and experiences define his transition to independence and a fuller expression of adulthood.
