Spotify’s 2023 Wrapped

Spotify 2023 Wrapped

I love the way that the day when Spotify releases its Year Wrapped summary of personal music preferences feels like a surprise holiday for our family. I love the way it’s eagerly anticipated (we know it’s coming in late-November), but it doesn’t seem to be tied to a particular day of the month or day of the week or certain number of days post-Thanksgiving. I’m sure there’s a deeper, underlying logic to it — but I honestly don’t want to know the formula.

I love just getting an 8:47 AM text from Cor on our family group text, saying “SPOTIFY WRAPPED IS OUT!!!” And then, the next couple of hours become a mutual revelry in our individual facts and figures, as well as each other’s facts and figures.

Spotify 2023 Wrapped

Contrary to most years, I feel like this year’s version of my Spotify Wrapped is a nearly exact reproduction of my true listening patterns over 2023.

Spotify 2023 Wrapped

Spotify tells me that I’m in the Top 26% of people who use the app to listen to music. But out of the five people in our family, I’m actually a pretty distant fifth place in Minutes Listened. Elliot listened to enough music to last for 80 days!

I think the Sound Town feature was a fun new addition for this year. This was probably the most embarrassing, but also hilarious, part of my Spotify Wrapped. Provo! Prime Mormon country!!! 🤪

I also thought this way of visualizing listening patterns was fascinating (I don’t know why they didn’t integrate it with the officially-produced screenshots).

Overall, I think Spotify is brilliant for this annual campaign. I hope to see others’ results and talk about personal insights in the coming days. Happy Holidays!
