What a weekend! Friday and Saturday, a group of about 30 men from h2o Kent traveled 3.5 hours to the Dayton area for a conference with another 250 men from various collegiate churches throughout the region (Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Toledo, Pittsburgh, and Ohio State). The event was called ManMakers, and it was a mighty-powerful experience with some powerfully mighty men.
I have to confess that I wasn’t entirely looking forward to the experience since it involved a long drive, poor sleep, hard work in keeping the masses of masculinity fed (h2o Kent was responsible for food preparation)… and honestly, it felt like we’d be covering a lot of familiar territory, topically-speaking.
The event was a lot more worshipful than I thought it would be, though. In addition, I was very encouraged to see the level of community and camaraderie that was formed in an experience like this. Also to observe the ways that h2o has grown through the years — seeing how my last ManMakers would have been back in 2002, when the total group would have numbered something like two dozen… I came away from the weekend with a fresh sense of encouragement for everything that God is doing in the lives of these men.
