Ah, yes! You're right, Patricia! Even as I heard the name and glanced at the website, something about it all seemed familiar... But even so, I still haven't heard of a weekly NPR show / podcast.

Hurray indeed for good storytelling...

Eric, you HAVE heard of StoryCorps. =)
The book that you & Marci borrowed - Listening Is an Act of Love - is a StoryCorps book (a compilation of stories that were gathered through StoryCorps) ...
http://www.storycorps.org/book
The Ira Glass talk motivated me to listen to more This American Life podcasts too. Something I've been meaning to do anyway.
Hurray for wonderful, intelligent, insightful & funny storytelling!

Thanks for the tip, Claire. I don't believe I've ever heard of StoryCorps -- though I will definitely have to give it a try now, based on your recommendation. :-)

And I think it's amazing, Jay, that you were similarly intrigued by the Adam and Eve narrative by Goldstein. I had the exact same thought as you -- that I'd love to get my hands on that whole collection -- but of course, the Amsterdam Public Library's English section isn't quite extensive enough to include that book. Though for those that might be interested, they DO have the Dutch version: "Dames en Heren, de Bijbel!" (seriously).

Looking forward to talking life and literature over Christmas, brother...

Brother! After hearing "Starting from Scratch" I requested "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible" by Jonathan Goldstein (who read his first story, Adam and Eve on the program) from the library. I'm already half-way through. I agree: not thoroughly "accurate" in a theological way, but surprisingly on-point with the emotions of the story. Very provocative and entertaining. Check it out if you get a chance.

Just excited that we're enjoying the same things at the same time.

"And even though I know how very far apart we are, it helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star..."

Glad I could be a timely encouragement! And I would definitely recommend This American Life (which is actually produced in Chicago, I believe!)... Let me know what you think of it after you give it a listen.
