I had a youth ministry professor at Moody who advocated dating as many people as you possibly could. His thinking was definitely Fonz-esque (in terms of the spectrum), but his justification basically went, "Don't make it a big deal when you're just trying to figure out what kind of person you like and who you get along with. Go out with all kinds, find your favorite, and then do something more serious from there."

So I think he would be one of those multiple- term people: dating is frivolity. THEN comes courtship, which is SERIOUS.

i'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I've been a several different places on that spectrum over the course of my dating years. My current "strategy" is to be on the Fonz side initially, but move quickly to the Elinor Dashwood side. In other words, don't be afraid to go out on very casual dates with basically no commitment, but ask the important questions, think critically, and end it if it's not going to move towards something serious.
