Thanks for the "European tour" of Ohio, though I wanted to remind you that there is also a Toledo in Ohio as in Spain. Also, Medina can be found in Ohio as well as in Saudi Arabia... I'm sure there are many, many more; needless to say, we are not original people!

Ah yes! How could I have forgotten Medina?!? That's even a pretty significant city in Ohio (as well as in Saudi Arabia)! I did, however, remember Toledo -- which I mentioned about two-thirds of the way through the paragraph about European name-alikes. Thanks, in any event, for helping me to recall other world cities within Ohio.

On the one hand, you could look at it and say that Ohioans are not very original, for not being able to come up with other names for their cities... But I think it's actually quite interesting to think of all those different pronunciations for the names of cities that are so well-known by other means (to-LEE-do versus to-LAY-do... RY-o Grande versus REE-o Grande... in addition to the others that I mentioned within the post).

I, for one, think that the names of all the cities in Ohio are tremendous.

For an interesting study on village names and street names, you may want to check out the history of the planned city, Columbia, Maryland. (The GCM office was located there, prior to its move to Columbus.)
