I have been wondering about something, though: is homosexuality really on the rise?

I'm not saying it's not, but I have heard convincing arguments both ways. I mean, the premise isn't entirely illogical, and can be motivated in a number of ways, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything, does it? Could it be that homosexuality is just more in the open these days, for example?

It reminds me of the 'general feeling' that crime is on the increase, while statistically it is not. We feel that crime increases because a) increased reporting bias of violent crime and b) news travels faster and further. Maybe the homosexuality issue is similar.

Now there does seem to be a relation between decadence and 'unnatural' proclivities, but could it be possible that the majority of 'non-fashion' or 'non-bandwagon' homosexuality has remained constant throughout the ages? It's true for the animal kingdom, so could it be true for us too?

While the morality aspect is not directly related, starting from the right premise makes certain conclusions more difficult to make. It's also more honest.

Just wonderin'...

Good clarification, Hilko. It is perhaps a combination: (1) greater acceptance of homosexuality as a socially-accepted lifestyle (which, to be honest, is probably the main thing I mean when I say homosexuality being "on the rise"), AND (2) more people making the choice to practice homosexuality (primarily because it is more socially accepted). As a biological phenomenon, it seems to me that the evidence is highly inconclusive. For a clarification of my thoughts on this matter, though, check my post titled "Eunique" from last June...
