I stood in line for 20 minutes this morning, right at the opening of the polls in our neighborhood. Most of the people in line ahead of me were cranky senior citizens. They acted like it was a hassle to vote. Something they couldn’t complete soon enough. But I felt quite differently.
I was genuinely happy to have the chance to cast my ballot in today’s elections.
Now I’m nestled in front of the television, watching the election returns, and again I feel happy to just be here and be a part of this whole phenomenon. It probably helps that I personally feel emotionally detached from the election results. Even though I cast my vote, you could say that I don’t really have a horse in the race; I just think it’s fun to be at the track.
